The Brown Trout Café
We've opened up the Brown Trout Café and are serving the area's best organic (and some Fair Trade) coffee, and espresso drinks. Our desserts, including scones, muffins and the yummiest cookies around, are made fresh each morning and afternoon! We are also serving "Little Shop of Bagels " organic bagels with a variety of cream cheese spreads to top them off. And, if you bring your own cup, you save 25 cents on your coffee! If that isn't enough, the Café is a beautiful, congenial space perfect for hanging out and relaxing with friends and family. We regularly feature artists in the Café and are pleased to have the opportunity to support them. And, we've expanded our merchandise line to include tools for the kitchen, cookbooks and gourmet foods to make your holidays easy and fun! For a better idea of what we're talking about, take a look at the photos below. Better yet, why not stop in and find out why our customers are saying:
"Beautiful café-wonderfully decorated....Thanks for making this a great place to meet with friends"; "The space is wonderful, colors yummy! Thank you"; "I enjoy the warm, relaxed atmosphere! ....Thanks for providing Dunsmuirians and all the great coffee and the space"
What is Fair Trade Certified Coffee?
The Fair Trade Certified label guarantees that farmers and workers receive a fair price for their product. 70% of all coffee is grown by small family farmers and it costs them 75 cents per pound to grow their coffee. Without Fair Trade, they are paid 25 cents per pound. With Fair Trade, independent farmers export the coffee themselves and are guaranteed $1.26 per pound. So, more money ends up in the hands of the people who do the work. Farmers can feed their families and their children can go to school instead of working in the fields.
Most Fair Trade Certified coffee, tea and chocolate in the US is certified organic and shade grown. This means that the products you buy maintain biodiversity, provide shelter for migratory birds and help reduce global warming.
